Grandmaster Alayón (8th Dan) has been studying Dangsudo for over 50 years. Born in Puerto Rico in 1960, he later became a Medical Doctor.
Alongside his wife, renowned Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner Dr. Huáng, he treated countless patients and specialized in naturopathic and homeopathic approaches to care. Throughout this time, he maintained a Dojang. He traveled frequently to Korea, China, and mainland USA to refine his martial arts practice.
Grandmaster Alayón founded the Korea Dangsudo Association®️ in 2002 to protect the original method of Dangsudo. Having learned from very senior masters including the Founder himself, Hwang Kee, KwanJang Nim, and studied directly under Kim Yong Duk (Dan# 2), Choi Hee Suk (Dan#3), Hong Yong Guk, Grandmaster Alayon recognized the distinction between the GoBeop (original method) of Dangsudo, and the current form it is practiced in most schools around the world today. This insight drew special praise from very senior Grandmasters in Korea who instructed him to "not change anything!". Respecting their wishes, and understanding the value of maintaining the old ways, he codified the original curriculum (in its entirety, from 10th Gup white belt to 9th Dan) and instructs his students not to deviate from it.
In Korea Dangsudo Association schools today, you will find a high standard of tradition: the original belt system, simple uniforms, standard class structure and etiquette, and a promotion path clearly laid out by our ancestors. Ranks are earned, not bought, and there are no gimmicks.
Grandmaster Alayón resides in North Carolina with his family and travels throughout the United States teaching KDA school owners and students. He is a Board Member of the World Dang Soo Do Union under Grandmaster Kim Song Ki (Dan#312), and all KDA schools maintain membership in this organization through our association.
If you have questions about joining our association, please feel free to write to us and inquire.
